Linda Strachan was born in Melrose, Massachusetts and raised in New York City and North Reading, MA. She received her master's in social work from Columbia University in 2022. Linda canvased for Greenpeace and later entered into The United States Navy. Linda moved to the island full-time in 1993. She has been an avid supporter of The Nantucket New School, The Children’s House of Nantucket, and Nantucket Aids Network. In 2005, following a trip to Africa, she co-founded the non-profit handbag company, Mielie. With fundraising and philanthropy at her core, hundreds of bags were sold via her Nantucket trunk shows, with all profit benefiting orphanages in Durban, South Africa. Linda’s retail expertise includes management of The Hub on Main Street and proprietorship of several island businesses. She currently serves as the director of The Seconds Shop supporting Fairwinds. An ardent explorer, Linda has spent extended time in Africa and Antarctica… but her most treasured travel is the short boat ride to Tuckernuck off the tip of Nantucket.
