Lisa joined Fairwinds as a Peer Recovery Coach while still attending school at Cape Cod Community College, seeking an associate’s degree in human services. She aspires to finish college and then pursue a master’s in social work with the goal to become a licensed clinical social worker. Because she did not want to wait until then to make a difference in her community, she jumped at the chance to provide PRC services to those who are on a journey of recovery. Originally from Ireland, Lisa moved to Nantucket when she was five. As is required for Peer Recovery Coaches, Lisa has lived experience with a substance use disorder. She first sought treatment when she was fourteen but did not become continuously clean and sober until the age of thirty-four, which is not an uncommon path for those seeking sobriety. Her understanding of the challenges of recovery informs her work with clients. She has earned a living on Nantucket working for her mother’s house cleaning company, driving a cab, waiting tables, and working at the Hy-Line. She loves being a mom to her two children and cherishes family life.
