Karen Rainwater

Fort Worth, TX and Nantucket, MA

Karen Rainwater, who splits her time between Fort Worth, TX and Nantucket, has a long résumé of philanthropy. After graduating from UT Austin, Karen was a stay-at-home mom of three.
She began volunteering at the NICU in the county hospital after the premature birth of her third son. She has remained an active volunteer and board member for many non-profits since then. One of her favorite volunteer opportunities was serving as a transitional care mom for The Gladney Center in Fort Worth. She would take newborns from the hospital to her home and care for them until their adoptions were finalized. She also works with her therapy dog, visiting hospitals, schools, and assisted living facilities. Mental illness has touched Karen’s family in many ways, and when she first met Tess and learned more about Fairwinds, she realized she would do what she could to make the agency sustainable.
